On the lower left is a smaller photograph of the Kandagawa river 神田川 and Ochanomizu station お茶の水. In the right margin are two lines of explanation about this shrine in classical Japanese.

Inscription: 御茶ノ水聖堂 昌平橋の外湯島にあり孔子を祀れる廟にして先聖殿と號す顔回曾子子思孟子を合祀す Ochanomizu seidō: Shōheibashi no soto Yushima ni ari Kōshi wo matsureru byō ni shite Senseiden to gōsu Gankai Soshi Shishi Mōshi wo gōshi su (Ochanomizu seidō: It is located in Yushima near the Shōheibashi Bridge. The building dedicated to Confucius is called Senseiden. The shrine is also dedicated to Yanhui, Kuaisi, Zisi and Mengzi.)
