Japanese woodblock print or Ukiyo-e One Hundred Poems Explained by the Nurse – No 36 Kiyohara no Fukayabu
No 36 in the series Hundred Poems, Explained by a Nanny. Hokusai used poems from the collection A Hundred People, One Poem in Each Print (Hyakunin Isshu 百人一首) as an inspiration. Each print features both a poem and the scene described in it. 100 prints of this series were planned, but only 27 were produced. The poem reads: “In summer nights it still seems to be evening when dawn is already here. Where has the moon returned to between the clouds?” (Kiyohara no Fukayabu) (KH, JR)
