A coloured ukiyoe woodcut depicting a courtesan from Tokyo’s Shin Yoshiwara red light district. It is a portrait of an oiran courtesan of the highest rank from the early Edo period, wearing a brightly coloured kimono painted with various motifs, with an obi belt, the characteristic long hairpins and black lacquered koma geta high shoes. The work is without the artist’s signature, publisher’s or censor’s seal.
