Photography Memorial Arch Pailou on Mount Xiang
A black-and-white photograph showing a close-up of the memorial triumphal arch (pailou 牌楼) on Mount Xiang (Xiangshan 香山), or the “Mountain of Fragrance”, that marks the entrance to the emperor’s hunting grounds.
The photograph is the 373rd of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Pailou in Hiang-Schan. (DZ, MV)
