A black-and-white photograph showing a close-up of two robbers shot dead on a Beijing street. They lie covered on the ground. In the background, a man stares curiously at the bodies. Foreigners called one of the clashes between Nationalist revolutionaries and Beijing’s military leadership between February and March 1912 the Night of Terror.

The photograph is the 89th of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Erschossene Plünderer. (DZ, MV)
