A black-and-white photograph showing a statue of a temple guard at the Buddhist Dazhong Temple (Dazhongsi 大鐘寺) or “Great Bell Temple” in Beijing. The temple was built in 1733, while the bell inside is more than 300 years older.

The photograph is the 250th of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Ta-Tshung-Tse: Tempelwächter. (DZ, MV)
