A black-and-white photograph showing an old man, probably Uyghur, with a hunting falcon on his arm. Falconry is still practised in China today, especially in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region 新疆. It dates back to the early 10th century, when the Khitans settled northern China.

The photograph is the 137th of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Tartar mit Jagdfalken. (DZ, MV)
