A black-and-white photograph showing a side view of the southeastern city wall of Beijing with the Dongbian City Gate (Dongbianmen 東便門) and the outer area in front of the wall. On the walls is a fort or guardhouse built of bricks. Below it is the city gate. In the foreground stands a three-part arch bridge, called “Bridge of Water Spirits” in the manual photo inventory.

The photograph is the 112th of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Brücke der Wassergeister und Dung-Bien-Men. (DZ, MV)
