Ivan Koršič’s Postcard Album (MMP)

  Legacies of mariners

  Maritime Museum of Piran

Ivan Koršič (Solkan 1870–Solkan 1941) was a military chaplain and later a naval superior in the Austro-Hungarian Navy. He served mainly at the Austro-Hungarian military base in Pula, at the local naval hospital and on the Austro-Hungarian ship Arpad. Ivan Koršič never visited East Asia. However, he was an avid collector of postcards. His estate, which is kept at the Maritime Museum Piran, includes seven albums of postcards and photographs. Among them is an album containing postcards of places where Austro-Hungarian ships stopped on their voyages to East Asia. The postcards were sent or brought to him by acquaintances and friends from the navy. One of them, most likely Petty Officer Zvonimir Ožegović von Barlabaševec, also brought Ivan a wooden lacquered album from Japan in which to keep his postcards.
