Villa Podrožnik

Villa Podrožnik, on what is now 27 April Road in Ljubljana’s Rožna dolina, is currently closed to the public and is used for state protocol purposes. Its name derives from the Podrožnik (Rosenbuchl) mansion which stood on the site in the 17th century. Its immediate predecessor on this site, Kollman Castle, was built in 1910 by the Art Nouveau architect Ciril Metod Koch (whose designs include the Mladika Complex and the Hauptmann House) for Robert Kollman, the son of a well-known Ljubljana porcelain merchant. In 1947, a state building was built on the site of the old villa, designed by architect Vinko Glanz, best known for his plans for the National Assembly of Slovenia. Glanz’s villa is surrounded by extensive parkland and the interior is furnished with numerous works of art and antiques. The East Asian artefacts are particularly notable, especially the porcelain.
