Postcard Yoshiwara Jinja
A black-and-white photograph of the Yoshiwara shrine at Shin Yoshiwara near Asakusa, Tokyo. After the great fire of 1657, all licensed public houses in this neighbourhood were consolidated. The shrine is frequented mainly by women who practice singing, dancing, and other arts, but also by merchants, as it is dedicated to Benzaiten (Sarasvati), the god of wealth and art.
