Photography Chinese Boys Catching Frogs
A black-and-white photograph showing a group of ten boys of different ages catching frogs. They use wooden sticks and woven baskets for the hunt. Frog legs have always been part of Chinese cuisine, among both rich and poor.
The photograph is the 153rd of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Chinesen-Jungen. (DZ, MV)
