A black-and-white photograph, a bust portrait of two Chinese women on the street. Both the simple and padded clothing and the gloves indicate the lower social status of these girls, and show that the season is winter. Behind them hangs a white banner in the shape of a long lantern. These were usually placed in front of stores and restaurants. On the lantern is a sign inviting passers-by to enter the shop.

The photograph is the 163rd of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Chinesinen. (DZ, MV)
