A black-and-white photograph showing a 58-metre-high pagoda with a temple in the eponymous Tianning Temple (Tianningsi 天寧寺). The Buddhist temple complex is now part of the Xicheng district (Xichengqu 西城區) in Beijing. The octagonal pagoda was built in the 12th century.
The photograph is the 242nd of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Tien-Ming-Tse: Tempel und Pagode. (DZ, MV)
