Photography Burned-Down Streets After a Rebellion
A black-and-white photograph showing destroyed buildings after the Night of Terror in Beijing. Between February and March 1912, Chinese Nationalist revolutionaries rioted against Beijing’s military leadership.
The photograph is the 94th of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Brandstätte nach der Revolte. (DZ, MV)
