Villa Bled

Villa Bled was owned by the aristocratic Windischgrätz family until 1922, when it passed into the ownership of the Karađorđević royal family. The new owners renamed the mansion Suvobor/Suhobor in memory of the mountain under which the famous Battle of Kolubara took place in the First World War. For the Karađorđevićs, Villa Bled was important as a summer residence.  Renovations began in 1933 under the direction of Plečnik, but were not completed until after World War II, when the German occupation administration tried unsuccessfully to turn it into an officers’ hotel. After the war, the renovation was entrusted to Vink Glanz, and the renovated villa was used as a residence by Josip Broz Tito. Since the 1960s it has been a luxury hotel. The objects in Villa Bled include East Asian porcelain and other artefacts.
