A black-and-white photograph: panoramic view of the city gates on the inner wall that separated the Forbidden City of Zhonghuamen from the Inner City (Neicheng 内城). The gate is called Donghua (Donghuamen 東華門). A crowd of people passes through the gate.

The photograph is the 271st of 449 photographs of Beijing and its surroundings in the album of Ivan Skušek Jr., purchased during his stay in Beijing (1914–1920). In the handwritten inventory of the album, the photograph is referred to as Süd-Zugang (Tung-Hua-Men) der Verb. Stadt (früher). (DZ, MV)
