Postcard Sōkaren
A black-and-white photograph showing an enclosed palanquin (a type of sedan chair or sōkaren 葱華輦) used for Emperor Meiji in the first year of the Meiji period. An exhibit of the Kyoto Imperial (State) Museum is set up in a garden next to a pine tree for photographing. On the right-hand side is an Imperial Museum stamp with the date July 2, 1923 (12th year of the Taishō period), when Alma Karlin probably visited Kyoto herself.
